Thou shalt have no other Gods before me.

The FIRST and greatest commandment.

 What does this really mean? 

First to clear the air on "God". There are a number of terms and thoughts on who or what "God" is. That is not what we are discussing here. For this study we will suffice to say that "God" is Our Father - The Almighty by whom are ALL things,

 1 Corinthians 8:6  But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him

 Our God has a son, His Son is Jesus,

 Matthew 3:17  And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Matthew 17:5  While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Luke 3:22  And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

Joh 1:18  No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Joh 16:28  I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

 and their Holy Spirit/Holy Ghost/Comforter.

 John 14:16  And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

John 14:26  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 16:7  Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

We know Jesus is the Word of the Father.

John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2  The same was in the beginning with God.

3  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

The Father with His Son and the Holy Spirit as a "Team" created all things and also he made the worlds.

We know the Father created all things through or by His Son Jesus by Heb 1.

Hebrews 1:1 God (the Father), who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

  Whether one believes something was said by the Father or Jesus does not matter here, Jesus spoke only what the Father gave him to say, so everything Jesus said was from the Father and working as One (Team) they have made known the Father's will for man.

Whether one believes the Father or Jesus was talking and dealing with man in the Old Testament is also no matter here, as Jesus was in perfect obedience to his father and whatever he may have said or did would have been just as if the Father had said or did.

 In the beginning "God" (plural) created the heavens and the earth. Gen 1:1

 So working together they (the Team) created all things. In six days they finished their work and rested on the seventh day, setting it aside as a blessed and sanctified that day.

 Gen 2:1.Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2. And on the seventh day God (The Team) ended his work which he has made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

 Coming out of Egypt (bondage to sin) the children of Israel where given a covenant where by to live. Which is the same covenant we are given today when we seek to be released from our Egypt, our bondage to sin. The very first word SPOKEN (Ex 20:1) of that covenant is:

 Ex 20:2. I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bandage. 3. Thou shalt have no other God before me.

Today when we are called out of the house of bondage, freed from the bondage of sin in our flesh, we are given the very same word or commandment:

 I am the Lord thy God which hath freed you from the bondage of sin. Thou shalt have no other God before me.

There are many gods out there in our lives, in many forms, from money, stomach, flesh, to even our religious beliefs. These are many times contrary to our one true God. The hardest of these to overcome is the god of our religious beliefs, which for many are contrary to the covenant we are actually called into by the One who called us out of bondage.

 While we were still in bondage to our sins, The Team called us to repent, to come out of that bondage and join their Team and they use the Law as the tool to convert the soul.

Psa 19:7  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the
testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
Psa 19:8  The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart:
the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

When we do we are to join them as one, to become one with them and have no other God (ruler, captain) before him. In joining that team we are required to abide by the team rules and to act as the team leaders act.

 As part of the team we will rest when they rest, we will bless when they bless, we will obey the team rules, which are the Ten Commandments. We will truly say we have no other God before us. We will act in perfect obedience. The team rules will be impressed upon our hearts, they will become part of us, we will become one with them. All members of the team will be walking in love in perfect unity having the same laws written upon their hearts, a perfect church (bride) without spot or wrinkle.

 This church exists today, is here and now. This church, which has no other God before it, who head is Christ Jesus, is calling all men to leave behind their religion gods and come repent and join our team.  This church is not in the modern day Christian denominations which reject the Ten Commandments as a requirement for life, which are lead by deceiving spirits which teach disobedience to God's law but obedience to them, never delivering from the bondage of sin, teaching sin cannot be overcome. These are gods of themselves and have been put before the actual God that created all things and rested the seventh day.

Romans 15:5  Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

6  That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

7  Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

Thou shalt have no other Gods before me.

The only way one can have no other gods before the Father (God)  that created the universe is to join their Team become like them, by repentance and become subject to the Teams law and conduct, it is only then that one becomes a spiritual being, walking in love (all the commandments), and actually having NO other gods before him but the Creators of the universe.

 How do you know you love God? When you keep the commandments and they are NOT grievous to our hearts and souls. Then you know that you know.

 1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

In the end our Father will be ALL in ALL and we shall have NO other gods before him.

 1 Corinthians 15:22  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

23  But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.

24  Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

25  For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

26  The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

27  For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

28  And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
